Clare Lindley
Clare Lindley
started playing violin at the age of six. She moved on to the viola as
soon as her hands were big enough and played until the age of seventeen, performing in
various youth orchestras and a string quartet.
She began playing in a professional duo at nineteen, performing a mixture of styles on
violin and viola and also singing for the first time. Together with singer-songwriter
John Mitchell, the duo Green achieved success on the folk festival scene in Scotland,
Ireland, Europe and even Russia, as well as touring with Steeleye Span (-of "All
Around My Hat" fame) and playing support to various band such as Capercaille, The
Blues Band and Sharon Shannon.
In 1998, Green launched their CD Found on the Wave at the Celtic Connections festival
in Glasgow.
Clare also joined an all-girl band called The Lemon Tarts and played fiddle and called
dances with a ceilidh band for six years.
Since moving to London in 1999, Clare has poured pints of beer; (particularly
Guinness) busked with a six piece street band and joined two Irish bands. Currently
she is getting ready for a tour in Germany with singer-songwriter Jan Allain. She and
Brian also play regularly in Six Mile Walk - a Celtic folk band - in London pubs.
Clare has also started the strange phenomenon of running round and round city parks
almost every day, breathing deeply the carbon monoxide, in a strange bid to finally
get fit. She also climbs walls in her spare time.
